How to claim from Medicare?

There are two Medicare pathways available. Jump to the one that applies to you:

  • Chronic Disease Management Plan — your GP refers you to speech pathology as part of managing a chronic condition.
  • M10 — New Medicare Offering — a newer pathway for speech pathology, also requiring a GP referral. Learn more.

Chronic Disease Management Plan

What do I need to do before attending so that I can claim from Medicare?

  1. Request a referral from your GP for a chronic disease management plan.
  2. Email us a copy of the chronic disease management plan.
  3. This will generally entitle you to five rebates of roughly $60 per session, for that calendar year.

What are the steps to claim from Medicare?

  1. Ensure you have emailed us a copy of the chronic disease management plan from your GP.
  2. After the appointment, wait 1-3 business days for the initial invoice to be sent to your email address. The subject of this email will be Invoice. This email will contain a PDF file showing the outstanding balance owing for this invoice. It will also state "Not yet paid". Do not send this invoice to Medicare.
  3. Pay the full amount of the invoice - the email will have instructions for how to do so (with BPAY or Credit Card).
  4. After the payment has been made, wait 1-3 business days for the updated (paid) invoice to be sent to your email address. The subject of this email will be Updated Invoice. This email will contain a PDF file showing that the invoice is "Paid In Full".
  5. Claim from Medicare using the "Paid In Full" invoice. Double check to make sure you are using the "Paid In Full" invoice and not the "Not yet paid" invoice.
  6. Medicare will then provide the rebate to you (generally directly to your bank account).

M10 — New Medicare Offering for Speech Pathology

What do I need to do before attending so that I can claim from Medicare?

  1. Request a referral from your GP if you are eligible for a complex neurodevelopmental disorder or an eligible disability.
  2. Email us to let us know you will be using the M10 Medicare pathway.
  3. This will generally entitle you to rebates for four assessments and ten therapy sessions, with possibility of additional assessments and therapy sessions after GP approval.
